Filopimin Finos succeeded in giving birth and nurturing modern Greek cinema, during hard times. Overcoming insurmountable obstacles and with only few means at his disposal, he managed to create some of the finest, high-quality Greek films.
As a businessman, Filepimin Finos can be described as a complex phenomenon; a combination of keen perception, knowledge of cinematic technique, passion and intuition. He studied, crosschecked and experimented, acting upon his conclusions immediately.
He built the first sound-recording device in Greece, shot the first colour film with stereo sound, he created stars, successful directors and technicians, whereas all of the above were achieved without the support of any government agency, or private business.
He lived an almost ascetical life and remained loyal to his views and aims as a film producer. A kind and ethical man, a beloved teacher who always took good care of his students and co-workers, Finos was most of all, a responsible and tender companion.
On January, 1977, Filepimin Finos passed away, after having struggled with his seven-year disease. He did not leave an heir, but his 186-film heritage, constitutes today a trust for the new generations of cinematographers. |

The Book |
| The factors of the "Finos Film" website would like to express their gratitude towards Mrs. Mariaketi Kamvasinou, Tzela's niece. She recently published a book (Orfeas Publications) about Finos and Tzela. The book relies greatly upon sound recordings and Tzela's narrations, but the information has been thoroughly crosschecked with other, more objective sources. |
The result is a diligent 380-page long large publication, with a hard cover, full of unpublished photographs, interviews and stories. The book comes with a DVD with rare archive material, interviews with some of the greatest actors and directors and numerous film extracts. |
